Eco Fest
24th September 2024
The EcoFest 2024 brought over 1000 students and eco - enthusiasts on 24 September, 2024, filling Rajalakshmi Engineering College with a buzz of excitement for change. With Yi Chennai's Climate Change Team at the helm, support from the Tamil Nadu Government's "Green Tamil Nadu Mission" and synergy of the Forest department, this milestone event became a catalyst for a greener tomorrow. The event was inaugurated by the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Siva V Meyyanathan and the Minister for Forests, M Mathiventhan. EcoFest began with a powerful commitment as 250 trees were planted on the college grounds, marking the start of an even grander mission. The inspiring speeches delivered by the ministers highlighted the critical need for climate action, igniting a wave of excitement among the crowd. With this momentum, Yi Chennai set an ambitious goal: to plant 300,000 trees across Tamil Nadu in the next three years, taking a significant step toward a sustainable future. As part of the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, with crucial guidance and expertise from the Forest Department, the initiative focused on planting native trees that did more than combat climate change - they help revitalize ecosystems and strengthen the environment. The initiative kindled a wave of action, inciting all YUVA colleges to unite, lead the charge and make a lasting difference in rejuvenating and protecting our natural spaces. With each tree planted, the mission took its first steps and the vision for a lush and enduring planet began to take root.
